Occasional minor output corruption

I've noticed on buildkite that occasionally, an output character will be corrupted.

Example from a Metal.jl run:

Test                                      (Worker) │ time (s) ��� GC (s) │ GC % │ Alloc (MB) │ RSS (MB) │

I think it may always be a pipe character, but I'm not sure.

It never really affects interpretability of the output
